About me

I am a Ph.D. student and NSF graduate research fellow studying computer graphics and geometric modeling at Texas A&M University, advised by Scott Schaefer. My interests, however, are broader than computer graphics. I got my B.S in both computer science and mathematics. My father is a professor of biology and I have, at times, worked in the fields of biology, chemistry, and physics.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful girlfriend Sneha. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle or my bicycle, sailing, swing dancing, and designing computer games. I love spicy, flavorful food and the best cuisine in the world is Indian. My favorite type of music is dance and party music. Further information about my work, my projects, and about me can be found through the links at the top of the page.

3D Joe

The next best thing to meeting me in person is having a 3D model of me. I got this model scanned of my face during SIGGRAPH 2009, at one of the trade booths. If you do not have a 3D model viewer already, you can use MeshLab to see the 3D model of me.

Sneha

Sneha is the best girlfriend in the world. She is everything that I could ever want in a partner. She is smart, fun, pretty, and a joy to be around. Sneha is a Ph.D. student, like me, but in the field of biology. She researches bacterial signaling and chemotaxis in the model organism E. coli, and is particularly interested in the role of the signaling chemical AI-2 in the group behavior of bacteria. More information about Sneha is available on her webpage.

Bikes

Here is a list of the bikes that I either own, have owned, or ride a lot. Two wheeled vehicles are a lot of fun and have a way of making you feel free and alive. Bikes are also nice, because they are affordable, but not designed with the common man in mind. Bikes are designed with a singular purpose. Sport bikes are pure performance, scooters are optimal for getting around a city, and road bikes are the fastest way to move under your own power.

Sailing

I love the idea of vehicles of all sorts, but sailing is one of the coolest forms of transportation ever invented. As far as I know, it is the only mode of locomotion that uses a power source entirely separate from the vehicle. Sailing is also one of the least understood forms of transportation by the general public. To correct two misconceptions, it is entirely possible to sail upwind, and sail boats are exciting and scary to ride.

Swing Dancing

Swing is one of the best forms of dancing. Because swing dancing is a partner dance, the most important skill is the ability to communicate with your partner. What sets swing dancing apart from other partner dances is that swing dancing is all about the smooth transfer of momentum. While there are spins and turns, the dance is more about enjoying yourself than about showing off.
